Use this simple card sketch with any stamps and patterned paper! Quick, clean, and customizable--this layout is perfect for card makers at any level. Save this for your next card making session!

The Sketch

This week’s sketch features a central rectangle for your sentiment and three embellishments—two in one corner, and one in the opposite corner to create a nice visual triangle. It’s simple, stylish, and oh-so-versatile!

Measurements:
  • Card Base: 8 ½” x 5 ½”, scored at 4 ¼”
  • Patterned Paper: 5 ¼” x 4”
  • Basic White/Vanilla: 4 ¼” x 3”
  • Coordinating Cardstock: 4 ⅜” x 3 ⅛”

Let’s take a look at the four cards I created using this sketch...

Bright & Cheery Floral Card

For this first card, I kept it simple and sweet with bright florals and a cheerful sentiment. I used the Florals in Bloom patterned paper with the Pretty Florals stamp set and dies bundle. The card base is Strawberry Slush, and the sentiment says “Have a lovely day.” This card is all about sunshine and smiles—perfect for spring and summer greetings!

Make a classy handmade thank you card with the Gallery Blooms stamps and Beautiful Gallery paper. Mossy Meadow adds a touch of sophistication!

Elegant Thank You Card

Card two uses the same layout but has a more elegant vibe. I paired Beautiful Gallery patterned paper with the Gallery Blooms and Beautiful Motifs stamp sets. The sentiment reads “Thank you for everything,” and it’s all set on a Mossy Meadow card base. This one’s a great option for more formal thank-you notes.

Peg Board Father’s Day Card (Stepped Up!)

To show how you can level up this sketch, I created a masculine Father’s Day card using the Trusty Tools stamp set. Instead of the usual Basic White rectangle, I die-cut a piece of Basic Beige to look like a peg board—how fun is that? The sentiment is stamped separately on a scrap of Basic White and added to the center. The background uses the Country Woods patterned paper, and I added Shades of Green Hexagon embellishments. The base is Pool Party for a fresh, unexpected color combo.

Embossed & Die-Cut Thank You (Stepped Up!)

This last card takes the floral theme to a new level. Instead of patterned paper, I embossed a piece of Basic White using the Forever Plaid embossing folder for a subtle, textured background. For the focal piece, I used the Impressions Abloom dies to cut a large oval from the Floral Impressions patterned paper in Pool Party. The flowers are stamped in Strawberry Slush and Petal Pink, and the sentiment reads “I appreciate you so very much.” It’s clean, fresh, and perfect for a heartfelt thank-you.
