What's the Difference between Water-Based Markers and Alcohol Markers?

5/21/2021

People often ask me what the difference is between Stampin' Write Markers and Stampin' Blends. The simple answer is that Stampin' Write Markers are water-based markers and Stampin' Blends are alcohol markers, but that doesn't really tell you what you want to know. So, today I'm comparing coloring with these two types of markers.

Plus, I'm hopping with the fabulous Pretty Cards & Papers International Design Team! Be sure to read all the way through my post to the list of designers at the bottom. Then, click through the list and see all of the gorgeous cards they have made. You definitely don't want to miss a thing!

So, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Easy, No Mess Watercoloring Card Ideas

3/19/2021

The True Love Designer Series paper is the perfect floral patterned paper for coloring, and watercolor pencils and blender pens are the perfect solution for easy, no mess cards. Plus, they're an inexpensive way to color images. We all love the look and ease of Stampin' Blends, but they can be a little costly if you want a lot of colors. The watercolor pencils are a great inexpensive alternative.

Today, I am hopping with the fabulous designers of the Pretty Cards & Papers International Design Team. We are all creating cards with the True Love patterned paper, and I think you're going to love them! You'll find the list of designers at the bottom of this post, so after you check out my projects, be sure to click through the rest of the hop to see all the other beautiful cards.

So, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Gorgeous Posies Card Idea

All of these cards use the Happy Thoughts stamp set. This is a fabulous greeting set that has both outside and inside greetings. This stamp set, the True Love Patterned Paper, watercolor pencils, and a little cardstock is all you need to make beautiful cards! These flowers are colored with the Gorgeous Grape colored pencil and then blended with a blender pen.

Happy Thoughts Card Design

Here, I have colored one of the other flowers in the True Love patterned paper pack with the Calypso Coral watercolor pencils. I cut the sentiment with the Stitched So Sweetly dies and added a few Pearls.

Thank you card idea

Similar to the first card, these flowers are also colored with the Gorgeous Grape watercolor pencil. This is a great way to use the flowers at the edges of the paper since half of each flower is covered by the patterned paper. The sentiment is stamped on a 1/2" strip of Basic White cardstock and a few pearls and white bakers twine are added as accents.

Basic Black cardstock: 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2"
Basic White cardstock: 1/2" x 4 1/4"
True Love patterned paper: 2" x 4 1/4", plus flowers

Floral Birthday Card

Once again, I've used the half flowers from the edge of the True Love patterned paper to tuck under this strip of striped paper. I colored the flowers Calypso Coral and the leaves granny Apple Green. I love the bright pop of the colors on the black cardstock! I stamped the birthday greeting on Basic White cardstock and punched the shape with the Tailored Tag punch.

Basic Black cardstock: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"

Christmas Card Making Ideas using the Forever Greenery patterned paper, Poinsettia Petals stamp set, and Stitched Rectangle dies from Stampin' Up!
Who says you can only use patterned paper designed for the holidays to create Christmas cards? The gorgeous Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper looks fabulous with the Forever Fern stamp set, but that doesn't mean it won't work for Christmas cards. I've paired it with the Poinsettia Petals stamp set and Stitched Triangle dies to create two beautiful holiday cards.

Ok, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Cutting Dimensions and Instructions for this Easy Christmas Tree Card Design

This Christmas card is easy to make and has limited stamping. The Forever Greenery pattered paper is cut into three triangles to create the Christmas trees.

Thick Whisper White Cardstock: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
Whisper White cardstock:

Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper:
Christmas Card Idea using the Forever Greenery patterned paper from Stampin' Up! This isn't traditional Christmas paper, but it works fabulously for this unique Christmas card design.
I embossed the piece of Whisper White cardstock with one of the Wrapped in Texture Embossing Folders. This is layered on the card front. The three triangle Christmas Trees are adhered to the piece of 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" Whisper White cardstock. I tied a piece of the copper ribbon from the Basket Weave Metallic Ribbon Combo Pack and used a Mini Glue dot to adhere it over the trees. Then, I stamped the sentiment from the Poinsettia Petals stamp set with Just Jade ink. I fussy cut the sentiment and adhered it over the bow using Mini Stampin' Dimensionals. The piece of 3 1/2" x 4 3/4" Whisper White cardstock to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals as well.

Instructions and Dimensions for the Poinsettia Holiday Card

My second holiday card idea features a gorgeous layered poinsettia over a strip of the striped paper from the Forever Greenery Designer Series Paper pack.

Just Jade cardstock: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
Just Jade cardstock: 5 1/4" x 4"
Mint Macaron cardstock: 5 1/4" x 4"
Whisper White and Mint Macaron: scraps to fit the Poinsettia pieces and leaves
I stamped the poinsettia pieces with Tuxedo Black Memento ink. Then, I colored it with light and dark Petal Pink and dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin' Blends. For the leaves, I stamped them on Mint Macaron cardstock and colored them with Pool Party Stampin' Blends alcohol markers because I didn't have the Just Jade ones. I layered the flower and ribbon on a piece of the Forever Greenery patterned paper and then on a piece of Just Jade cardstock. I carefully fussy cut around the top of the flower and layered it again on a piece of Mint Macaron cardstock and then on a Just Jade card base. I just love all the depth, texture, and lushness of this card. The Just Jade cardstock looks almost like a shadow around the poinsettia.

Simple Cards with the Flowers for Every Season Paper

Today's I am hopping with the Pretty Cards and Paper International Design Team. I have a fun card sketch for you and I used the Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper to make a bunch of variations of this simple sketch. Be sure to read all the way through my post to the full list of design team members and links to their blogs at the bottom.

The Flowers for Every Season DSP is so pretty! There are so many awesome flower patterns. Sadly, when I sat down to put these cards together, I had already used most of my favorites from the pack. In fact, I was kind of down to the dregs and I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with it. My husband looked at the few sheets I had left and declared they looked like old wallpaper.

I really wanted to take this paper and give it a funky twist. So I came up with this card sketch that adds three stripes horizontally across the front and a circle. Mixed and matched with the floral patterns, it gives kind of an updated retro look. Alright, enough talking, on y go! Let's get stamping.

This is the basic design. I covered the card front with a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece of the Flowers for Every Season DSP. Then I added 1/2" stripes of Just Jade, Bumblebee, and Magenta Madness cardstock. I made them extra long and trimmed the ends once they were adhered. I used the Layering Circle dies to cut Whisper White and Magenta Madness circles. I stamped the greeting from the Here's a Card stamp set in Magenta Madness and added a few Bumblebee Enamel Dots. Super quick and easy!

For my second card, I wanted to use this bit of striped paper that I had left from another project. So instead of covering the whole card front, it is only 3 3/4" x 5 1/2" so that the Magenta Madness shows on the sides. I added strips of Poppy Parade, Magenta Madness, and Bumblee Bee. The greeting is from the Friend Like You stamp set.

To top it off, I add a few Artistry Blooms Self-Adhesive Sequins. I love, love, love these! They are currently my absolutely favorite accessory in this catalog. They are so easy to use and are so shimmery. They pack includes four colors - Mango Melody, Pool Party, Rich Razzleberry, and Calypso Coral. I used the Mango Melody ones, and while not an exact match, they work well.
My third card is my absolute favorite of the three. I used the new Pattern Play stamp set. This is my first time cracking it out, and I love it! I can't wait to play with it some more.

This time, instead of using patterned paper with solid stripes, I used solid Magenta Madness and added stripes of the Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper. I added some more of the self-adhesive sequins for a little bling. This time, I used the Rich Razzleberry ones. They're just so awesome and sparkly!

While I love the bright colors, especially the Magenta Madness, there are also some awesome Christmas theme papers in the pack of Flowers for Every Season Designer Series Paper. For my last card, I layered patterns on patterns. I stamped the trees and greeting from the Merry Moose stamp set. This awesome set was in last year's Holiday catalog and it's back again this year! So, you can't order it right now, but you will be able to order it again beginning August 4.

To finish off the card, I added some ribbon. This is the White Crinkled Seam Binding that I colored with the dark Poppy Parade Stampin' blend. Because it's a circle, the piece of ribbon isn't actually tied around the front. Instead, I laid a shorter piece across the front and then taped the ends to the back of the circle. Then, I took another piece, tied a bow, and adhered it to the front with mini glue dots.

Thanks for looking at my projects today! I hope you'll take a moment to hop through the whole blog hop and check out all of the amazing designers from around the globe. The complete list of designers is below. After that, you'll find links to the supplies I used today.
