Welcome back to my Introduction to Card Making & Rubber Stamping series! This week, we’re diving into one of my favorite parts of stamping—coloring! Adding color to your stamped images brings them to life, and there are so many fun ways to do it. In this post, I’m sharing three different coloring techniques: Stampin’ Blends markers, Colored Pencils, and Watercoloring.

I used the adorable Darling Dinos bundle to demonstrate each technique and created three handmade cards that showcase just how versatile this stamp set can be. While dinosaurs might seem perfect for kids' cards, you can also use this set to create elegant and sophisticated designs! See the full video below along with photos of each card and the complete supply list.

Love You Card – Watercoloring

For this card, I just had to play with the NEW 2025-2027 In Colors! I also used the Celebratory Sips Designer Series Paper, which features these fabulous new hues. To achieve the bold, blended look on the dinosaur, I:
  • Stamped the brachiosaurus on Watercolor Paper with Jet Black Stazon Ink.
  • Tapped a clear block onto the Darling Duckling and Timid Tiger ink pads.
  • Used a Water Painter to pick up the ink and color the image, blending the colors beautifully.

The result? A colorful, whimsical dinosaur that pairs perfectly with the playful background!

Simple Sophistication – Watercolor Pencils

Not all dino cards have to be for kids! This elegant design skips the dinosaurs and focuses on soft, sophisticated coloring.
  • Stamped three sunflowers with Saddle Brown Stazon Ink.
  • Used Watercolor Pencils to add color and shading.
  • Blended the colors with a Blender Pen for a smooth, painterly effect.
  • Kept the design clean and simple by layering white cardstock on white for a classic, minimalist look.

This technique is perfect for those who love a water-colored feel without needing a lot of supplies!

Simple and elegant! Learn how to use watercolor pencils to create a soft, hand-colored look on your handmade cards. This clean and classic sunflower card proves that the Darling Dinos bundle isn’t just for kids!
Bright, bold, and fun! This kids' birthday card features Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers for a vibrant and professional look. The Darling Dinos bundle makes crafting adorable cards easy and fun! Save this idea for your next handmade birthday card.

Kids’ Birthday Card – Stampin’ Blends Alcohol Markers

This bright and fun birthday card is perfect for any little dino lover!

  • Stamped the triceratops with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink on Basic White cardstock.
  • Colored it with Stampin’ Blends alcohol markers in Soft Sea Foam, Summer Splash, Melon Mambo, and Petunia Pop.
  • Stamped three balloons, colored them, and cut them out with the coordinating dies.
  • Used Linen Thread, pulling apart the strands for realistic balloon strings, and added a teeny tiny bow at the end.
  • Popped up the balloons with Stampin’ Dimensionals for extra depth.

When using Stampin’ Blends, remember to stamp with a water-based ink like Memento to prevent smudging!
