Ready for a new rubber stamping technique that’s simple but has a big wow factor? The Split Rainbow Technique is such a fun way to add bold color and unique shapes to your handmade cards. It’s quick, easy, and works with both cardstock and patterned paper scraps.

In today’s post, I’m showing you exactly how to do the Split Rainbow Technique and sharing four card ideas to get your creativity flowing. You’ll find a full video tutorial, project photos, and a free downloadable project sheet with measurements.

Thinking of You – Autumn Oak Leaf Card

For this card, I cut a large oak leaf with the Gathering Moments dies. Even though the oak leaf isn’t perfectly symmetrical, it has a nice balance that makes it perfect for the Split Rainbow technique.

I used strips of Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie, Crushed Curry, Pecan Pie, and Early Espresso cardstock for a warm fall palette. The sentiment, “Thankful for you,” is stamped from the Gathering Moments stamp set.

Just a Note – Circle Punch Card

For this note card, I switched things up with patterned paper. I used the Painterly Pears Designer Series Paper and my 1 3/4" Circle Punch to create repeating circles. I punched the circle four times across the center panel, with the top and bottom cut off at the edges.

When mixing patterned papers, I love combining simple patterns with checks and florals. The contrast helps each piece stand out. I finished the card with the sentiment “Just a Note” from the Simply Said stamp set, stamped in Mossy Meadow.

Bright handmade hello card using the Split Rainbow technique. Features the Sunshine Vibes dies and the 2025-2027 In Colors for a bold rainbow arc.

Hello – Rainbow Card

This bold and bright card uses the Sunshine Vibes dies to cut a rainbow arc shape. For the stripes, I chose many of the new In Colors: Timid Tiger, Strawberry Slush, Shy Shamrock, Darling Duckling, and Secret Sea.

I stamped “Hello” in Shy Shamrock and added a few clear speckle dots from the Strawberry Slush & Pretty in Pink Gems for a little sparkle. To make the colors pop, I layered the whole piece on an extra panel of white cardstock for a clean, crisp frame.

O Christmas Tree – Holiday Card

For the last card, I went festive with the Pine Tree Trimmings bundle. I cut a Christmas tree shape from a rainbow of strips made with the Elegant Pine Snowflakes Designer Series Paper.

The rich colors – Old Olive, Secret Sea, and Pretty Peacock – give it a cozy winter feel. I stamped “O Christmas Tree” in Pretty Peacock to finish it off.
