The beautiful alcohol background technique is so easy to do! See the video tutorial on my website. All it takes is some Stampin' Blends alcohol markers, vellum, and some rubbing alcohol. This sample uses the Let's Set Sail stamp set from Stampin' Up!®
The alcohol backgrounds technique is one of my favorites to do! When I was visiting my sisters a few weeks ago, they asked me to show them how to do it. And they loved it too! So, I thought y'all might like to see how it's done. Because it's quick, easy, and it'll make you feel like a true artist!

If you missed my live video where I shared how to do this technique, be sure to go back and watch it because I shared a lot of tips for getting really good results. And, I walked you step-by-step how to create this beautiful card using the Let's Set Sail stamp set and punch from Stampin' Up!®

Basic supplies:
91% Rubbing Alcohol (or higher)
Cotton balls
Stampin' Blends alcohol markers
Vellum
Watercolor Brush

Click the read more button below to see all the samples and find the full supply lists. Ok, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Splendid Thoughts Card

This card sample uses the new Splendid Thoughts stamp set from Stampin' Up!® that will be available in the upcoming 2022 July-December Mini Catalog that starts July 1.

Directions for the technique: The most important thing for getting good results with this technique is to use 91% rubbing alcohol or higher. A lot of bottles are 70% and it does not  work as well.

Amazing Phrasing Card

Start by scribbling on vellum with your Stampin' Blends alcohol markers. I like to go over each scribbled area 3 times to get a lot of ink built up. Then, put a little rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball and dab over your scribbles.

After it dries, dip a watercolor brush in rubbing alcohol and splatter the design. Let your vellum completely dry and then adhere it to a piece of Basic White cardstock. This will help the colors really pop!

Thank you for sharing your technique Heidi. Great for beginner or avid stamper. Your explanation of the colour wheel was most helpful.

Love your use of the cotton ball to create the movement of the alcohol! Adding the flicks of alcohol to make smaller designs is a great addition. Thanks for sharing this technique.

You're welcome! It does look like the alcohol ink patterned paper that Stampin' Up! had last year. But, you can pick the colors!
