Do you use a stamping platform when you're making cards? One of the fun feature's of Stampin' Up!'s stamping platform, the Stamparatus, are the removable and repositionable plates. This feature can be used with some stamps to do what is called hinge-step stamping. This is a fun technique that works great with the Biggest Wish stamp set. Stamping platforms are also fabulous for re-stamping the same image in the same location. See how I stamp multiple times to get colored images on black cardstock to create some fabulous birthday cards. On y go! Let's get stamping.
Stamp in colors on black using a stamping platform, like the Stamparatus from Stampin' Up! and white ink. These fun birthday cards were easy to make with the Biggest Wish stamp set.

Basic Technique for Hinge Stamping

For this card, I used the basic hinge-stamping technique to stamp "Happy" three times without re-inking my stamp with Granny Apple Green Ink. This makes three sentiments of different intensities.

I started by laying my paper on my Stamparatus and setting the "Happy" stamp in the bottom right corner. I put the plate to my Stamparatus on the right side, three spots down from the top. After I picked up the stamp with the plate, I inked it with Granny Apple Green ink and stamped. Then, I carefully removed the plate and moved it up one spot and stamped again. I repeated a third time to create the faintest "Happy" at the top.

Cutting Dimensions for this Birthday Card

The cutting dimensions for these two birthday cards are the same:

Base: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
Black or Green Cardstock: 4" x 5 1/4"
Granny Apple Green Cardstock: 3 1/8" x 4 3/8"
White or Black Cardstock: 3" x 4 1/4"

Stamping on Black Cardstock

To stamp in color on Basic Black cardstock, I started by stamping with white pigment ink or craft ink. I stamped the sentiment 3 times with white, drying the ink between each layer. Then, I stamped 2-3 times with colored ink. While the ink is very vibrant when first stamped, it does fade as it dries.

To finish these cards, I stamped "birthday" on Basic White cardstock with Granny Apple Green and fussy cut around it.

Beautiful and would be great for masculine cards too! I love that stamping on the black paper—what a striking contrast for a vibrant look. Great ideas! I love that you show more than one card with each technique or idea!

I love your cards. So pretty! Jennifer McGuire has a video showing this technique as well. She uses distress oxide inks which will hold their color better because of their pigment property. Unfortunately you can't do that with SU ink. Still a great technique. Thanks!
