Card Sketch: Simple Card Design with 2 Card Making Ideas

Two simple card making ideas using a card sketch. Samples feature the Dino Days and To a Wild Rose stamp sets from Stampin' Up!
I absolutely love card sketches! These card making layouts make designing handmade cards so much easier and can be a real help if you're stuck on how to get started. Just grab some images that work with the size of the card sketch, choose your colors, and get stamping! Plus, you can modify the card sketch as little or as much as you want. My two samples follow the sketch closely, but I've seen lots of cards based on sketches that have really stretched the basic layout idea. So, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Sample Card using the Dino Days stamp set

My first sample card idea uses the Dino Days stamp set. (Did you know the Dino Roar patterned paper from the last catalog is currently available on the Clearance Rack for only $4.60? It's an amazing deal!) I stamped the dinosaur in Coastal Cabana ink and added a the spots with Gorgeous Grape ink. (I used these same spots to stamp the Coastal Cabana cardstock using Coastal Cabana ink.) I placed a mask over the dinosaur before stamping the trees. To create the mask, I stamped the dinosaur on a sticky note and cut it out. The tree trunks were stamped with Soft Suede ink and the leaves are Granny Apple Green. For the sentiment, I chose a stamp from the Itty Bitty Birthdays stamp set. This set has all sorts of "Happy Birthday" greetings.

Card Sample with the To a Wild Rose Stamp Set

My second card making idea uses the To a Wild Rose stamp set. This card sample has a completely different look to it than the Dino Days sample, even though it uses the exact same design. Using a different stamp set impacts the overall feel of the card design.

I started by stamping the roses with Melon Mambo ink. This is a three-step stamping set, but I only used the two interior rose images to create these roses. I also stamped the most interior rose image in Melon Mambo ink on the piece of Melon Mambo cardstock.

I stamped the rose centers and the sentiment, also from the Itty Bitty Birthdays stamp set, with Blackberry Bliss ink to match the card base. I stamped the leaves with Granny Apple Green ink. For a little bling, I added some Iridescent Pearls to the card front. These pearls are from the 2020 August-December Mini Catalog and are sold as a Halloween embellishment, but I think they look great on any card. They are perfect when you want a dark colored embellishment to ground your images.
