Here is a super easy card making technique that creates a unique look - the Retiform Technique! Be sure to read all the way through this post to see more samples and get the FREE quick-reference guide.

I made these sample cards with the Ranunculus Romance, Simply Fabulous, Botanical Layers, and Quiet Meadow stamp sets from Stampin' Up!®

All you need are stamps, ink, cardstock, sticky notes, and some sort of blending tool like a blending brush, sponge, or dauber. Create two lines down the card with the sticky notes leaving the section between them open. Then, blend ink at the edges. Repeat going the opposite direction. Then, replace the sticky notes and stamp in the different sections.

To see exactly how easy it is to do, watch this week's video tutorial. Every Tuesday night is stamp with me Tuesday. The first Tuesday of the month always features a technique. I hope you'll join me for the next stamp with me Tuesday at 8pm Eastern on YouTube or in the On Y Go! Stamping Facebook Group!

Ok, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Retiform Technique with Ranunculus Romance

This first sample uses the Ranunculus Romance stamp set with Blushing Bride and Soft Suede. I laid my sticky notes in a way that created 9 sections instead of 6. This takes a little more work because you have to move the sticky notes more often, but it creates an even more fractured background.

Quiet Meadow Sympathy Card

The retiform technique is perfect for creating a quick sympathy card. Like the previous sample, this card uses only 2 colors of ink and cardstock. I blended the Very Vanilla cardstock with Crumb Cake ink. Then, I stamped the images with Soft Suede. It's a classic color combination!

Botanical Layers Thank You Card

The new Botanical Layers stamp set has some unique leave patterns in it. I love that some are very fine and weedy looking, some are bold but natural, and others are somewhat abstract. I created a fun thank you card using Parakeet Party, Soft Sea Foam, and Old Olive inks. The neon brightness of the Parakeet Party is toned down by the Soft Sea Foam.

Simply Fabulous Retiform Card

I jumped out of the box for this last sample card and used two different inks to do the shading. In one direction, I blended Parakeet Party and in the other, I used Coastal Cabana. Then, I used the new Simply Fabulous stamp set to add leaves and flowers. The pops of Poppy Parade flowers also jump out from the page creating a different bright look for this card. This is what is so much fun about the retiform technique! Traditionally, it's often used to make soft, grungy cards, but it works just as well with bright colors.
