While bold stamps work really well with this technique, you don't have to use bold images. You can use outline images instead like these from the Greatest Journey stamp set from Stampin' Up!®

I stamped these wildflowers in Tuxedo Black Memento ink and colored them with Stampin' Blends alcohol markers in Calypso Coral, So Saffron, Old Olive, and Granny Apple Green.
