Easy Watercoloring with Happiness Abounds Stamps

Are you scared of watercoloring? Does it look like it's too difficult and only for "real" artists? With the right tools, watercoloring is much easier than it seems, especially with rubber stamps!

I used the new Happiness Abounds stamp set and the Perfectly Penciled patterned paper from Stampin' Up!® to create some easy watercolored cards.

Watercoloring on Stamped Images

The Happiness Abounds stamp set is perfect for watercoloring because of its open line-art style. There is plenty of definition that you don't have to add definition with the watercoloring, but there is also plenty of space for coloring.

For this card, I stamped the flowers with Stazon ink on Fluid 100 watercolor paper. It is important to always use a thick paper when watercoloring. While you can use Shimmery White cardstock, the Fluid 100 paper is the best choice. The paper is thick enough to soak up the water and when flat, the water won't run, but stay puddled.

Watercoloring and Embossing on a Slim Line Birthday Card

On this slim line card, I embossed the images on Fluid 100 Watercolor paper with white embossing powder. This leaves white edges to create a very different look that the black outline images on the previous card.

Real Red cardstock: 8 1/8" x 3 1/8"
Perfectly Penciled Designer Series Paper: 8" x 3"
Basic White cardstock: 4" x 1"
