Find Card Making Inspiration in Your Favorite Artist

I do Instagram hops with a group of fabulous card makers. Each month, we make cards inspired by a category of favorites. This month, our handmade cards were all inspired by our favorite artists. And everyone created some truly fabulous items!

I always have trouble choosing just one favorite, especially a favorite artist. But one of my favorite artists is Monet. I love his watercolors and especially his paintings of poppy fields. That was my inspiration for this handmade birthday card that I made with the Modern Garden stamp set from Stampin' Up!®️

I used two different faux watercolor techniques for this handmade birthday card. One of them I shared last week. You can check out this faux watercolor gradient technique here. 

Easy Faux Watercoloring

I used the faux watercolor gradient technique for the green and blue background. I inked the the clear block with Tahitian Tide, Lemon Lolly, Parakeet Party, and Old Olive inks. Then, I spritzed it with water and pressed it onto a piece of Basic White thick cardstock.

For the flowers, I used a second faux watercolor technique that is also very easy! I started by brushing water on a piece of fluid 100 watercolor paper. Then, I inked stamps from Modern Garden stamp set in Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight, Parakeet Party, and Old Olive and stamped onto the wet paper. This causes the ink to run giving a watercolor appearance.

The edge of the Fluid 100 watercolor paper where I cut the flowers off was too pretty to throw away. I love the link of the watery flowers along the edge. It was perfect for the inside of this birthday card.
