Fun with Layered Dies on Handmade Cards

10/1/2021

I love the Playful Alphabet dies! They are so much fun to add any word or number to a card or scrapbook page. Today, I wanted to make black cards with just a hint of color. And I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. So, on y go! Let's get stamping.
Fun handmade cards that are black on black. Fun colors peek out from under die-cut letters and numbers. This technique is so stunning and easy to recreate!

Over-the-hill Birthday Card Idea

My first card is the perfect birthday card to wish someone a happy 50th birthday. The black numbers tumble down the front of a black card to a 50 at the bottom.

I cut the 50 out of 5 1/4" x 4" Basic Black cardstock. I used a piece of washi tape to hold down the numbers. After I had cut them, I carefully lifted the numbers from the Basic Black cardstock without removing the washi from the numbers. Then, I cut the numbers from Mango Melody, Magenta Madness, Bermuda Bay, and Gorgeous Grape cardstock keeping the numbers in the same place.

Hello Card Design

I used the same technique on my second card as well. After cutting the letters from Flirty Flamingo, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, and Coastal Cabana, I adhered them to each other, off-setting them very slight. Then I added them to the back of the piece of 5 1/4" x 4" Basic Black Cardstock.

I used black Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the Basic Black cardstock to the Basic Black card base. I love the way the color just peeks through the negative space.
