The Layering Hugs stamp set from Stampin' Up!® is absolutely beautiful! I love the dies that coordinate with the stamp and I especially love the way you can die-cut the word HUGS to layering onto the stamped image. I have a few different handmade card ideas for you using this fabulous stamp set.

I'm also going to talk about coloring on vellum. If you'd like to see exactly how I made this card, be sure to watch the video. I shared lots up tips for using vellum on your handmade cards.

I also have a few "non-stamping" ideas for the coordinating Layering Hugs dies. I paired them with the Symbols of Fortune patterned paper. You're going to love them!

So, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Simple Card Idea for the Sending Hugs Stamp Set

Before I share my handmade card using Vellum and Stampin' Blends, I wanted to share this card which has a similar layout, but no die-cutting and no vellum. I simply stamped the image on Smoky Slate, colored it with Stampin' Blends, and added a sentiment strip over the area that says hugs.

Basic Gray: 4 1/4" x 11", scored at 5 1/2"
Calypso Coral: 3 3/4" x 5"
Calypso Coral (sentiment): 3 5/8" x 1 1/8"
Smoky Slate: 3 5/8" x 4 7/8"
Basic White: 3 5/8" x 1"

Alcohol Markers on Vellum

Normally when you use Stampin' Blends alcohol markers, you need to stamp with a permanent water-based ink like the Tuxedo Black Memento ink. However, this ink doesn't dry quickly on vellum.

So, to color the vellum on this card, I stamped the image with Jet Black Stazon ink. Then, I turned the vellum over and colored the images on the back side. The coloring shows through the vellum but won't smear the ink because it's not on the same side. This is an easy way to color using vellum cardstock.

Quick No-Stamping Card

This card is quick and easy to make with just some die-cutting and patterned paper. I wasn't in love with the Crane of Fortune stamp set, but the coordinating patterned paper is absolutely gorgeous! The Symbols of Fortune Designer Series paper has gold accents and beautiful gray and Calypso Coral colors.

I cut the Layering Hugs die from metallic paper. I also used the HUGS die to die-cut pieces of foam adhesive sheets. I used these to pop up the die-cut from the background.

Brushed metallic gold: 4 15/16" x 3 11/16"

Simply Elegant Handmade Card Idea

This last sample card idea uses the same dimensions and layout as the previous example. However, I added a piece of 5 1/2" x 4 1/4" Symbols of Fortune patterned paper to cover the front of the card. Then, for the top layer, I used a piece of Calypso Coral cardstock and stamped the edges of the image with Calypso Coral ink. I only stamped around the edges leaving the center blank. I think it helps the die-cut pop out a little more.
