How to Make a Locking Gate Fold Card with the Hello Beautiful Stamp Set

See how to create locking gate fold cards using the Hello Beautiful stamp set from Stampin' Up!® This fun fold card is easy to make! Includes video tutorial.
I love easy fun fold cards, and the locking gate fold card design or interlocking gatefold takes a gate fold card and bumps it up a notch while still being super easy! I used the new Hello Beautiful stamp set from Stampin' Up!® and coordinating Beautiful Shapes dies to create these sample fun fold card designs.

I shared how to make a couple of these on my most recent YouTube Live. If you missed it, be sure to watch the replay so you can see exactly how to make this easy card. I walk you through all the steps and show you how to do the die-cutting and embossing using the Mini Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine.

The best part? The Mini Stampin' Cut & Emboss machine is 20% for March! What a fabulous deal.

Ok, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Cutting Dimensions of this Fun Fold Card

This first sample uses the Flowering Fields pattern paper for the die-cut mini hexagons. The card base is Pool Party. It's a bit hard to see, but there is a panel of Pool Party cardstock on the left that has been embossed with the Stripes 3D embossing folder. This is a great embossing folder that works in the Mini Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine.

Card Base: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 2 1/8"
Pool Party panel: 1 1/2" x 5 1/2"
Basic White (interior): 5 1/4" x 4"
Scraps of Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper, Pear Pizzazz, Old Olive, and Basic White cardstocks for die-cut pieces.

When I'm making a gate fold card, I prefer to only score one side of the card base. This way I can fold that side first, then fold the other side to match up with it. I don't have to worry about my measuring being a little off and leaving a gap or having the two halves of your gate overlap.

On the inside, I added a panel of Basic White cardstock. I stamped another abstract panel in one corner to carry the design to the inside of the card.

Interlocking Gatefold with an Extra Piece

I didn't share how to make this card during my YouTube live, but it uses the same basic dimensions as the card below. I added the second die-cut piece to the Highland Heather circle and the card front on only the left side. So, when you open the card, it lifts to the left with the Highland Heather circle, while the Basic White circle is attached to the right.

Simple Thank You Card with Patterned Paper

For my last card, I used the Abstract Beauty patterned paper. I love all of the gold accents on this paper! The only stamping is the sentiment which I stamped in Magenta Madness with the three X's in Mango Melody.

Magenta Madness: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 1 7/8"
Abstract Beauty DSP (dots): 1 1/2" x 4 3/4"
Abstract Beauty DSP (abstract): 2" x 4 3/4"
Gold foil (left): 1 5/8" x 5"
Gold foil (right): 2 1/8" x 5"
