Quick and Easy Card Idea: Highlighting Negative Space

This quick and easy card design highlights the negative space between images which actually brings out the images. This is a fun way to create a colorful card with limited supplies and time. So, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Cutting Dimensions for this quick card

​•Cardstock: 4 ¼” x 11”, scored at 5 ½”
•Black cardstock (or another dark color): 2 ½” x 4 ¼”
•White Cardstock: 2 ¼” x 4 ¼”

Directions for completing this simple design

Start by stamping an outline image using the Tuxedo Black Memento ink pad on the piece of Whisper White cardstock. Larger images seem to work better, but it's more important that the outside border is simple and not to detailed. Stamp the images close together, but not overlapping. Also, allow the images to continue off the edges of the piece of Whisper White cardstock.

After you have stamped the images, color between them in the same color to match your cardstock. Here I used Stampin' Blends, but you could use Stampin' Write markers as well. I colored the sunflower card with Bermuda Bay, the leaf card with Daffodil Delight, and the car card with Rich Razzleberry. 

After coloring, I adhered the piece of stamped Whisper White cardstock to a strip of Basic Black cardstock. 

Finally, I adhered this piece to a matching solid colored card base. Then, I stamped the sentiment with Tuxedo Black Memento ink. 

The sentiment is from the Celebrate Sunflowers stamp set along with the sunflower image. The leaf is from the Rooted in Nature stamp set and the car is from the Coming Home stamp set from the August-December Mini Catalog.
