Redo and Rewind: Poppin' Pastels and Covered Notebooks

7/23/2021

I'm hopping with the Stampin' Friends again today. This month, it is all about redo and rewind as we visit techniques and inspiration from the past! I created a card using an old rubber stamping technique - Poppin' Pastels. Then, I redid a project that I shared last summer - covered notebooks. Be sure to check out that past post for all the details and video on how to cover composition notebooks using patterned paper and Mod Podge.

Be sure to scroll all the way down to see the complete list of designers for this hop. You won't want to miss any of their amazing projects!

Want the supply list? You'll find the link all the way at the bottom of this post.

So, on y go! Let's rewind.
Stampin' Friends July 2021 Blog Hop - Rewind and Redo
Redo and Rewind with these Retro Projects. A hello card using the classic Poppin' Pastels technique and a covered composition notebook made with patterned paper and ModPodge. What could be more retro?images (c) 2021 Stampin' Up!

Use patterned paper to cover a basic notebook

I love covering basic composition notebooks with patterned paper and Mod Podge. It creates an extremely durable cover in colors and patterns that I love!

I wanted to create a notebook to keep all of the information for our summer vacation. I'm hoping to print some photos and include them in the back so that it can be a memento of the trip as well.
Use patterned paper, like the Pattern Party pattern paper from Stampin' Up!, to cover a composition notebook to use as a vacation journal, agenda, or anything! Because you use ModPodge, the cover is able to withstand heavy usage.
Cover a composition notebook with patterned paper for a fun vacation notebook, journal, or agenda. With a little ModPodge, this notebook is able to withstand heavy use.

Patterned paper and die cuts for the cover

I used the Pattern Party Host Designer Series Paper for this notebook. I used the Beautiful Trees dies to cut the tree for the front from Crumb Cake, Pear Pizzazz, and Granny Apple Green cardstock. I die cut the letters with the Playful Alphabet dies and used the bubble letter technique I shared a couple of weeks ago to make the title.

I love how bright and cheery this cover is!

Organizing the inside of this covered notebook

I wanted pockets on the inside to hold important information. Since we'll be travel in some remote areas that may or may not have decent cell coverage, I want to make sure that I have access to reservation information.

I cut pieces of patterned paper and scored 1/2" around three sides. Using Stampin' Seal+, I adhered the pockets to the pages. I also used an older alphabet stamp set to stamp the dates on the opposite page.

Rubber stamping technique: Poppin' Pastels

I was so excited that Stampin' Up! brought back a set of pastels. Back in the day, ya know, the late 90s when I was first a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, they had a set of pastels. They were perfect for coloring images. This time around, instead of little pots of pastels, the soft pastels are sticks.

I rubbed them over some Granny Apple Green cardstock that I had embossed. I love the way the blue highlights the raised areas. Then, I stamped the sentiment with Versamark ink and rubbed it with pastels for the old Poppin' Pastels card making technique.

Dimensions for this poppin' pastels card

Coastal Cabana: 8 1/2" x 5 1/2", scored at 4 1/4"
Granny Apple Green: 4 1/4" x 3 1/4"
Coastal Cabana: 2 1/2" x 2"
Granny Apple Green: 2 3/16" x 1 11/16"
Basic White: 2" x 1 1/2"
Use the new Soft Pastels from Stampin' Up! to do the classic Poppin' Pastels rubber stamping technique. Full video tutorial available.
