I love the big, bold sentiments in the Good Feelings stamp set from Stampin' Up!® They are perfect for making quick and easy handmade cards! To create a beautiful background for these sentiments, I did an easy watercolor wash in three colors.

I shared how to do this simple watercolor background on this week's Thursday Night Live. If you missed it, you can watch the replay to see exactly how these cards were done.

The true secret to these cards using quality supplies like the Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. This thick paper will take a lot of water and to get a nice fluid watercolor background, you want the paper to be WET!

I have more photos, the complete supply list, and more for you below. Just click "Read More" to see it. So, on y go! Let's get stamping.

Simple Watercolor Background

To create this simple watercolor background, I started with a piece of Fluid 100 Watercolor Paper. I used my Water Painter to paint water over the piece of blank paper. Then, I smooshed a clear block onto my ink pads - Pacific Point, Bermuda Bay, and Parakeet Party for this card. I picked up some of the ink with my Water Painter and added it to the card front.

The ink will run where the paper is wet but stop where the paper is still dry. After the first color, I did the second and then the third. I lifted the paper and tilted it a bit to let the colors run into each other.

Texturing the Background

To add extra texture to the watercolor background, I sprinkled it with sea salt. Then, I let it dry. The salt absorbs some of the wet ink so that when it is dry and you brush it off, you are left with spots of white. This creates the speckled texture that you can see particularly well in the Gorgeous Grape section of this card.

For my second card sample, I colored the watercolor paper with Coastal Cabana, Gorgeous Grape, and Fresh Freesia. I love the areas where the inks ran together creating a drippy look.

Finishing these Simple Cards

Once the watercolor backgrounds were dry, I pulled out my Stamparatus. By using this stamping platform, I could stamp the sentiments multiple times to get a really dark black. Because the watercolor paper has a lot of texture, you need to stamp multiple times to get a really good impression.

I stamped it with Tuxedo Black Memento ink so many times that I had to hit it with my heat tool to help it dry.

Then, I mounted the finished piece and put my cards together. For this final card, I used Daffodil Delight, Polished Pink, and Poppy Parade ink. I also stamped the Ray's of Sunshine stamp on the background in So Saffron ink.
